2017 Audi R8 Spyder Review. One of the most exciting premium sports cars on the planet has lost its top. A convertible version of the incredible Audi R8 is available for the 2017 model year. The second generation R8 is a couple of years into production, and it has blown away everyone lucky enough to get behind the wheel. 2017 Audi R8 Spyder Specifications Car and Driver say the 2017 Audi R8 Spyder is “everything you’d want in a sports car.” Its gorgeous design, tremendous performance, and reasonable price tag compared to its more exotic competitors make it a unique standout in the field of high-end sports cars. We don’t know the MSRP for the US yet, but we assume it will be a bit higher than the $162,900 base price of the cope. 2017 Audi R8 V10 Spyder Engine of 2017 Audi R8 Spyder That V10 is sourced from Audi’s corporate cousin, the Lamborghini Huracan. It’s a 5.2L naturally aspirated V10 which makes 540 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque . The car rockets from 0-100 km/h in only 3.6 seconds and have a top speed just shy of 200 mph . The engine is rev-happy with a redline at 8,700 rpm. In classic Audi fashion, power is delivered to all four wheels with up to 100 percent of the power going to just the rear wheels or just the front wheels as needed. The Quattro all-wheel-drive system does a spectacular job putting the power right where it needs to go. The V10 is the only engine option and the only transmission available is the 7-speed S-Tronic dual-clutch automatic. The lack of a manual option is a let-down for some enthusiasts, but when you’re in the driver’s seat, it’s hard to find anything about this car to complain about. Performance Review It returns surprisingly good fuel economy at about 20 combined mpg thanks to a new stop-start system. This is just one of the ways that the R8 is easy to live with for what it is. The luxurious interior appointed with quality materials make the R8 a pleasant place to be. It borrows an innovative “Virtual Cockpit” digital dash that we originally saw on the TT. Generous space in the front trunk gives this supercar a nice touch of practicality. The convertible is an excellent touch for this brute. The 2017 Audi R8 Spyder has a few differences from the coupe other than just the top. For starters, it’s not available in the form of the V10 Plus which adds 69 horsepower, 15 lb-ft of torque, and pushes the top speed up to 205 mph. Because of the folding roof, you sacrifice the lovely glass hood that comes on the coupe. One cool feature of the Spyder is the ability to lower just the rear windshield which makes it easier to hear the mighty V10.
